Toy Story 4 – Pixar Deliver But Isn’t it Time Woody Hung up his Hat?

Toy Story 4 Poster

Toy Story 4 starts instantly where the third movie left off. Everyone is happy, everything is awesome. Bonnie (the girl who Andy gave his toys to at the end of Toy Story 3) is nervous about kindergarten.

Until she makes a new friend that is. Forky, a spork with a smiley face who quickly becomes her favorite toy. Forky however isn’t a toy and wishes to be back home but he makes Bonnie happy. With that in mind Woody makes it his mission to protect Forky, until he gets lost on a road trip and chaos ensues.

I think I’m at the stage now where I’m getting a little over Toy Story. For the first 30 minutes or so I was genuinely bored. It’s very copy and paste cinema so for adults it wears a little thin in places unless easily entertained.

The film does pick up pace eventually and is a solid installment as a whole with vibrant imagery and loveable characters.

The movie hits home in the comedy department with quick wit and smart dialogue. I’d go as far as saying this is the funniest installment with Forky playing a central role in the comedy. You can’t help but laugh at a talking spork.

Once again this movie hits you in the feels with much more impact than installments before it. Regardless of the strength of the movie, isn’t it time that Woody just hang up his hat, for good this time?

Summary

A wonderful movie packed with heart, humor and more. But regardless of the film’s strength it’s just playing on old nostalgia and driving home the point that for every time Hollywood lacks an original idea they’ll just throw a sequel or a remake onto old classics.
