Universal Studios UK is looking more and more likely to happen as a recent press release from the company indicates the multiple benefits the project will bring to the United Kingdom.
Too much has happened with this project for any of us to doubt whether it’ll happen or not.
Firstly, it has been discussed in parliament, public consultations have been held, the land itself has already been purchased and ground testing has already begun and has been completed.
Not only that but rumours of certain prop builders who have been contacted regarding projects and ride manufacturers who have allegedly been in talks with the company regarding additions to this exciting UK project which will consist of a theme park, citywalk and on-site hotel.
In the Universal UK press release expert analysis indicates that the theme park could generate nearly £50 billion of economic benefit for the United Kingdom.
The Bedford-based theme park is forecast to contribute £35.1 billion to the net economic contribution over the construction period and first 20 years of operation. In addition to that a further £14.1 billion in net additional tax returns for HM Treasury over the same period.
Thousands of jobs will be created with 20,000 stated within the release over the construction period with 5000 workers on-site at once during the peak of construction.
8000 further jobs will be created when the park becomes operational rising over time and with millions of visitors to the UK additional economic benefits for the wider economy will result from this project.
Universal UK have estimated that they will be amongst the highest-attended attractions in the UK and that’s a very easy statement to make given the quality of UK theme parks as a whole.
Universal will instantly capitalise on the monopoly of UK theme parks with their theming, ride offerings, popular IPs, famous citywalk and accommodation all eclipsing the quality of what’s currently on offer to UK visitors in the theme park industry.
This project is going from strength to strength and competitors need to up their game if they are to stay afloat when this absolute giant of a theme park company set up a base here in the United Kingdom.
It’s a very exciting time for the UK and with the park set to open in 2030 (if it is set to go ahead) there isn’t too long to wait until the UK gets one of the most exciting additions we’ve seen in recent memory.
After a recent trip to Universal Studios Orlando for the first ever time it’s currently unsure of what attractions the UK are set to obtain but with mention of video game IP’s in a recent statement we may, just may have our very own Super Mario Land here in the United Kingdom which would be incredible!
Page Thompson, President, New Ventures of Universal Destinations & Experiences said: “A world-class theme park and resort from Universal has the potential to generate billions in economic benefit for the UK, by creating thousands of high-quality jobs and attracting millions of new visitors to the country.”
