It has today been reported that the popular survival video game Until Dawn is to be turned into a movie!

Music to my ears today as Supermassive Games the masterminds behind Until Dawn are set to have the video game series turned into a feature film as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Filmmaker David F. Sandberg is set to helm the project as he steps away from his last several years of Superhero movies and back into his horror roots.
The PlayStation game adaptation will be made by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions with all three units falling under the Sony corporate umbrella.
Screenwriter Gary Dauberman ( It, Annabelle and The Nun) is doing a pass on the script originally written by Blair Butler, who previously wrote Sony’s vampire thriller, The Invitation.
Until Dawn was first released in 2015 and the decision to turn it into a movie is certainly a bold choice for the filmmakers as the game is so immersive that you are already playing out an animated movie with a solid story and intrigue. It already feels like a polished production.

Each choice you make within the game decides the fate of the characters and stranded in a remote mountain retreat you must think about every decision you make carefully to keep everyone alive.
Encountering a mysterious killer, cannibalistic wendigos and a cable car station that is one swift wind from falling down made Until Dawn a gasp-a-minute tension-ridden horror game that is unlike anything we’ve seen before.
After Until Dawn, I started to marathon the numerous decision-making games in their arsenal including Man Of Meadan, The Quarry, Little Hope and the various other Dark Pictures Anthology movies that thrust you straight into your very own horror movie.
They’re incredibly addictive and recognisable stars appear in the game, motion captured and dropped straight into the heart of the action.
Will Pouter, Ashley Tisdale, Rami Malek, Hayden Pantierre, Ted Raimi, David Arquette, Lance Hendriksen and Lin Shaye are just a few names that have featured in these incredible games.
Just take a look at the game cast for Until Dawn below:
Details on casting for the upcoming film remain to be seen but the filmmakers / casting agents working on this film absolutely MUST go after the original voice acting cast otherwise this film will be pointless before it’s started.
But then I think, ah, It’s Sony. You only need to look at the casting for Uncharted compared to the game to know just how bad some of their decision-making is at times (sorry Sony) let’s hope they learned their lesson on this one although a $407.1 million worldwide total and the 5th most profitable video game movie of all time might add a little bias to their decision.
With how well the film performed at the box office it seems that less care is paid towards how it’s received and more towards how much money it rakes in at the box office, it’s a business at the end of the day.

Screen Gems is describing Until Dawn as an R-rated love letter to the horror genre and we hope that they do this little horror game gem justice.
