Zoom Horror Movie

Zoom horror movie Host is certainly a film that deserves your attention as tension is amped to the max in this wonderfully creative horror masterpiece.

Host Zoom Horror Movie

Host, the critically acclaimed British horror sensation, is released in UK and Irish cinemas and on digital platforms on 4th December, courtesy of Vertigo Releasing.

Six friends get together during lockdown for their weekly zoom call. It’s Haley’s turn to organise an activity and instead of a quiz, she’s arranged for a medium to conduct a séance.

Bored and feeling mischievous, Jemma decides to have some fun and invents a story about a boy in her school who hanged himself.

However, her prank gives license for a demonic presence to cross over, taking on the guise of the boy in Jemma’s made-up story.

The friends begin noticing strange occurrences in their homes as the evil presence begins to make itself known, and they soon realise that they might not survive the night.

Zoom Horror Film

If lockdown wasn’t bad enough a horror movie themed around Zoom, the popular video calling app through all of this craziness didn’t seem like something I’d be interested in.

After the 60 minute runtime concluded though it was very clear that Host was something very special indeed.

Director Rob Savage directed his cast over Zoom throughout lockdown and taught them various special effects and homemade effects they could do to bring their individual stories to life as they summon a demonic spirit.

Instantly reminding me of the Facebook horror movie Frend Request mixed with a little bit of The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity in how its shot this particular film is stitched together wonderfully and the short runtime works in its favour.

Zoom Feature Film

Host heavily relies on jump scares to deliver the impact and whilst the jump scares are a little predictable its the insane build up of tension that forces my blood pressure to unsafe levels.

Almost sophisticated in its nature Host makes the audience feel as though they’re watching a call (not a film) and as a result you’re sucked into it more.

You’re questioning what is ab libbed, what is scripted, how did they do this, how did they do that.

You’re fully immersed into the world that Rob Savage has created.

Zoom call horror movie

Host is the perfect film to watch on your laptop or desktop monitor rather than a big screen television to fully immerse you in the story and for 60 minutes I was absolutely bricking it from the comfort of my own home!

Using a variety of Host features with a creepy twist even the credits sequence of the movie is inspired, all contained within the Zoom chat window.

Dread Central called Host ‘The Scariest Film of the Past Decade‘ and whilst I don’t personally agree with that statement I will say that it’s a masterpiece in its own right and will certainly stand out as one of the defining films of this lockdown craziness.

Well worth a watch! Highly recommend!

HOST will be released in cinemas and on digital platforms on the 4th of December.
