Gladiator is a timeless film that never needed or warranted a sequel, so perfect and wonderful in its execution that even the mere thought of doing a follow-up to it would be a mammoth task, up steps original director Ridley Scott to build on what many class as one of cinema’s ‘perfect’ films.
No pressure Ridley.

Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist.

With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.
The trailer for Gladiator 2 plays out like a short film with a staggering 3 minutes of runtime showcasing beautiful visuals and a stellar cast.

Whatever the plot holds for us there’s absolutely no doubt as to how beautiful it looks with crisp images, intense battles and some unusual characters along the way.
Russell Crowe was the heart and soul of the original movie and I feel without the soul this film will falter at the box office because of that, no one really wanted to see a follow-up so I’d be very curious as to how it performs on the big screen.

Whatever happens, there’s no doubt just how wonderful it will look on the big screen as the trailer (check it out below) gives you a mere taster of what to expect on the big screen this November.
Gladiator 2 is also available in IMAX format which would be an absolutely outstanding audio and visual spectacle of the highest order. Even if the film is terrible, like it was during my last trip to an IMAX cinema there’s no taking away from IMAX’s capabilities of perfect picture and Dolby’s perfect audio IMAX set-up.
