The world of hospitality is dramatised on the small screen by many programmes. But these shows give us an insight behind the scenes of the hospitality market as it goes from strength to strength. From hotels to B&B’s we have gone through the mix and found the best of the best.
With the help of The Cairn Collection, owners of hotels in Jesmond, we have just a small selection of TV shows for a glimpse into the more extreme of the industry.
Gordon Ramsay’s Hotel Hell
Gordon Ramsay is ruthless in all walks of life from cooking to hotels it seems. Ramsay visits an establishment which has run into financial difficulties or has been given bad reviews and kicks them into shape.
Ramsay makes his presence well-known to the owners, to us the viewing public and to the world. There’s only so much swearing you can tolerate during a Gordan Ramsey show but he has a genuine enthusiasm for helping people despite his mean exterior.
The Hotel Inspector
A more subtle approach is that of Alex Polizzi. Who rather than shouts at them to make changes she takes a more diplomatic approach. She’s a hotel inspector who turns drab to fab.
Four in a Bed
In ‘Four in a Bed’, the owners of four bed and breakfasts visit one anothers establishment and rank them accordingly. They get feedback from one another whilst at the same time learn about how to improve their own establishments. The owners are notoriously critical, with every surface being subjected to the finger sweep for dust and stray hairs. After the competitors have stayed in all the establishments, they meet up for an often-confrontational stand-off.
Instant Hotel
An Australian show very similar to Four in a Bed but this is in regards to homes. Couples visit other peoples homes that have been transformed into hotels and review them. This one is currently streaming on Netflix.
Stay Here
Another Netflix binge-worthy series, ‘Stay Here’ is an American show which focuses on boosting profits for homeowners who choose to rent out a room in their home or alternatively, their entire house.
Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby
This Amazon prime series is a global rundown of some of the best high-end, unique hotel establishments. An insight into the finer things in life we get a glimpse of how much work is involved in these luxury establishments and go behind the scenes. The hosts also get involved themselves, in order to decide whether they would be cut out for a job in a real-life hotel in the industry.
