After seeing Star Wars: Origins I had a craving to watch more Star Wars short films. I didn’t have to wait too long and two arrived at once! We take a look at Kenobi and Breaking Point: A Star Wars Story.
Star Wars Short Films
Jamie Costa stars as Ben Kenobi in this visually aesthetic short. Similar to Star Wars: Origins the look and feel of this short are very high-quality indeed. The production value, the visuals and more. It doesn’t look a spec out of place within the Star Wars universe.
The musical score is reminiscent of a Game of Thrones type composition for me, now and again I would get the infamous Game of Thrones introduction music creeping into my head at various intervals.
With moments of tension amped up far beyond J.J. levels and a solid cast Kenobi is a wonderful watch indeed. Amassing over 1.6 million views on YouTube since Boxing Day the appeal of this film speaks for itself.
Breaking Point: A Star Wars Story
On a much more modest view count is Breaking Point: A Star Wars Story. This short film comes from Serbian director Stevan Filipovic. The short focuses on brothers Nol & Kess Dust who confront their past, on the night Ben Solo turns against his uncle and their mentor, Luke Skywalker.
Once again I can’t quite believe the visuals in these short films. They look like films with much invested into them. The aerial shots (especially in the opening battle) are superb and the locations are visually stunning.
They blend perfectly in with the narrative we’re being told and I’m very surprised this hasn’t garnered more views on YouTube just yet.
Overall

It seems as thou independent filmmakers are stepping up their game when it comes to fan films. Both of these shorts in addition to Star Wars: Origins are absolutely superb. The level of detail and the passion to get films like this made is commendable. Well worth a watch if only to rid the taste of The Rise of Skywalker out of your mouths.
