Ali G: Who Iz I Gets October Theatrical Release

ALI G
The original movie released in 2002

When Sacha Baron Cohen resurrected his Ali-G character for a cameo at Wimbledon tennis tournament a couple of weeks ago it was only a matter of time before an Ali-G themed announcement was around the corner and today is that day!

Ali G: Who Iz I has been officially announced today for a theatrical release on October 23rd by Amazon MGM Studios.

Sacha will be star and the film will also mark his directorial debut.

It’s currently unknown what angle the film will take as it certainly doesn’t feel like it’ll be like the feature film Ali-G Indahouse which was released in 2002. It could go down more of the documentary style of old Ali-G clips where he would interview famous people such as Donald Trump and the Beckhams.

After Cohen’s run of Borat movies including Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, which was released on Prime during Covid in October 2020 I feel as though this style may not go down as well as Sacha is predicting.

Whilst I love the character and the stupidity it brings I feel as though it needs to take a different angle to remain relevant. I’d have loved a feature film personally but I just can’t see it happening and the teaser seems to point to anything but.

I’m a little apprehensive of how this film is going to go down, I grew up with Ali-G so I certainly will be laughing at all of the old jokes but they’re just that. Old jokes.

Scary Movie this year proved that rehashing jokes just falls flat but it did do commercially very well so maybe this little cash grab will do exactly the same.
