The Scream 5 official title has been released as writer Kevin Williamson took to social media to announce that production had wrapped.
Franchise creator and executive producer Kevin Williamson confirms the title of the upcoming Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Productions release.
Originally labelled Scream 5 the official title of the upcoming 2022 scheduled horror movie will simply be named Scream.

Kevin posted the following statement on Twitter in regards to the production wrap today:
That’s a wrap on Scream, which I’m excited to announce is the official title of the next film!
Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I could not have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you, the fans.
I’m excited for you to return to Woodsboro and get really scared again. I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making.
I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team and incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart.
See you in theatres January 2022.
With Scream being a franchise that is always self aware and consistently referring to horror movie structure and trademarks I certainly think the title will be referenced in someway shape or form.
The decision to name the fifth instalment as the exact same as the original movie is certainly a head scratcher but I’m sure all will be revealed in January 2022.

I love the last line in this official credits list, I was frantically searching for Matthew Lillard but there’s no way in hell that they are going to reveal that key plot point at this early stage but that cheeky last line almost confirms that there’s certainly a name or two to come!
Fans were also calling for a Jamie Kennedy return to the franchise after his character was so controversially killed off in Scream 2.
His character could be added in via an old piece of footage or some form or recording or movie deconstruction that he was always so fond of.
It would be nice to wrap up all the franchise favourites for this big 2022 horror blow out.
There’s even word going around that ANOTHER Scream movie is already in pre-production if the 2022 one wasn’t enough but the sources are still somewhat unfounded.
