Nobu Documentary

A restaurant that features on Keeping Up With The Kardashians more times than I can count and a restaurant that is often booked months in advance and frequented by celebrities. From humble begins to branches opening all across the world (with one to come in Manchester soon).

The film grants unprecedented access into Nobu’s world, revealing the alchemy and precision behind his signature dishes, and the inspirations behind his innovations that revolutionised tradition-bound Japanese cuisine.

Excited about the upcoming release, Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa said:

This film is very personal for me. Matt has done a great job of telling my story, not just of my journey as a chef but also as a person. Everything I have built has come from perseverance, passion, and the people who believed in me along the way.

Speaking on his process of working with the iconic chef Director Matt Tyrnauer said:

I was fascinated by Nobu’s creativity and his innovation, and figuring out how to show his process became a very interesting challenge for the film. While making the movie, I was often reminded of the film I made about Valentino (Valentino: The Last Emperor)—another master of his field at the top of his game. Just as I became fascinated with the process of making haute couture, I wanted to understand the art of the sushi chef, the way Nobu practices the art, and what was behind his inspiration to reform a very traditional cuisine.

With some first-hand insight including a documentary crew alongside the famous chef and lots of interview footage this looks to be a very insightful documentary as we take a peek behind the curtain of Nobu.
